ABOUT THE PROJECT
Dublin Canvas is an idea, a community art project intended to bring flashes of colour and creativity to everyday objects in the greater County Dublin area. Less grey, more play.
The project takes previously unused public space and transforms it into canvases to help brighten up each area, making Dublin a more beautiful place to live, work and visit.

THE LOCATION
Phibsborough Road / Connaught Street , Dublin 7

THE ARTWORK

Phibsborough is a cool and equipped spot with buzz and life due to its amount of shops, cafés, pubs etc. The demographic of the neighbourhood is fairly varied too, from families with kids, young folks house sharing, elderlies, many of us from different countries, each bringing their own spice to the mix.
No matter our differences, there's one thing we all have in common: the shopping list.

The box is located by Phibsborough Shopping Centre and the back side faces the car park,
so it's sort of a painted Google Maps.
The sides of the box are packed with colourful doodles !
THE IDEA
Initially, I have considered the location and what demographic would interact with the artwork,
then brainstormed and gathered some reference images to capture the feel I wanted to achieve.

The box is located right by shops and restaurants, and due to the buzzy nature of the neighbourhood,
I wanted to add a quirky and fun touch depicting such a simple routine activity, going to the shop,
and make it feel like these two people are walking with you on the street.
MOODBOARD
I have gathered together some reference images, so that I could use them as guide and
decide what icons, doodles and colours to use for this quirky piece.

SKETCHES AND TEMPLATE
I've sketched on paper and digitally, until I finished the submission piece.
Later on, when drawing on the actual box, I decided to simplify the artwork
and add fewer doodles on the sides of the box, to avoid it looking too cluttered.
